Lasqueti.net Keeping up with Lasqueti

Lasqueti.net is a civic publication for Lasqueti Island, BC. I started it because keeping up with what's happening here is harder than it should be if you can't make every meeting or read every announcement. Reports and topic pages live here, written for residents who want to know what's going on and for anyone off the island with a reason to follow what happens here.

What this is

Lasqueti.net is editorial coverage: investigations on matters where I've done the homework and topic pages that pull together the background and the documents that define an issue.

Events, classifieds, official LCA notices, the services directory, and other day-to-day community resources live at lasqueti.ca. This site doesn't try to replicate any of that.

What this site covers

Services and decisions that affect Lasqueti residents and come from outside the island: provincial agencies, Crown corporations, regional districts, and the contracts and programs that govern them. The focus is on things that are poorly documented, hard to follow without significant time investment, or where the official record doesn't match the lived experience here.

What it doesn't cover

Internal island politics, interpersonal disputes, local society news, or anything where I have a direct personal stake. I don't cover events or initiatives unless they connect to a public-interest question I'm already tracking. This isn't a community bulletin board.

How the site is organized

Topics are subject pages with background, key documents, and a record of filings on a given issue. Each topic lives at a permanent URL so it can be linked from printed correspondence without the link breaking later.

Public Interest Reports are authored investigations and advocacy, typically directed at the province or federal government. Each report has citations, a clear set of requests, and a downloadable PDF.

Editorial principles

The work follows a set of standards: sources first, focus on the senior governments, a right of reply before publishing criticism, conflicts disclosed, mistakes fixed in the open, and AI use disclosed. The full Editorial Standards page lays these out in detail.

Who I am

I'm David B, a resident of Lasqueti Island. I maintain this site on my own time. It is not an official publication of any government body, society, or organization, and I'm not on any committee.

Independence

No advertising, no sponsorship, no funding from any organization. The site runs on free or near-free hosting and my time. The only recurring cost is the domain renewal.
